Cornish Farm Holidays

Environmental Policy

British Farmers are the guardians of our beautiful and diverse countryside.  We feel privileged to live in such wonderful locations with abundant wildlife, and do whatever we can to preserve it for future generations to enjoy

Some of our members have converted to organic husbandry, which reduces the use of artificial manures and pesticides, and some are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, which gives accreditation to environmentally sustainable practices.

Most are also members of CoaST – Cornwall Sustainable Tourism project.

All of our members are encouraged to use measures which help reduce the impact of tourism on the local environment.

Simple measures that can be employed are recycling of waste, composting vegetable waste, use of energy saving lighting, and using environmentally friendly cleaning products.

You can help by making sure you turn off lights and electrical appliances and by turning the heating down when you go out.

Using locally produced food and consumables not only helps cut down food miles, but also helps the local economy. Sustainability is not just about aiding the physical environment, communities matter too. With this in mind Cornish Farm Holidays members organise various activities to raise money for local good causes.  The biggest event staged is the Big Breakfast week during the last days of January.

Where possible Bed and Breakfast suppliers use only locally produced foods in their meals.  Your Self Catering hosts will be able to give you information on where to purchase Cornish produce, and also how to have local produce delivered to your cottage. Some members will be able to supply you with foods produced on the very farm where you are staying.

Because our farm locations are often well away from bus and train routes it is not always feasible to holiday without your car.

However many members encourage car free days out.  Ask your hosts about the activities in the area where you are staying.  They will be able to give you guidance on local walks and cycle rides direct from the farm (some farms have bicycles to hire or lend out to guests)
